Well...didn't expect that hiatus to last so long...
Anyway, a lot has happened since I last posted up on here, a few good, a lot bad, and a whole lotta ugly.
And yet we shuffle along.
Speaking of shuffling along, this post is coming to you at the end of September which means October, a.k.a. Spooky Season, is upon us. So I thought, what better way to return from hiatus in October than to take a deep dive into arguably the scariest book of the Bible, the book of Revelations?
That's right! On this season of Toyin's Bible Study, we're going all the way in on the last book of the Protestant Bible. And why not? Between the news cycle getting scarier by the day and people getting caught up (no pun intended) in a rapture appointment that came and went, the Revelation keeps getting brought up or mentioned in our lives.
But do we really understand what John was talking about? Have our views of the message of Revelation been shaped by preachers who meant well but definitely scared hell out of us (or they didn't mean well and were profiting off our fear of hell...anyway)?
Bible study officially begins October 14th and we will be using Revelation: Witness and Worship in the World by Scot McKnight, which is available on Kindle for under $12 or on paperback for under $11. If you cannot and/or don't want to get the book, no worries, you can still join in on the study!
Since we're all busy 'round here, bible study will go a bit differently this time around:
We'll still meet on Zoom on Tuesdays, but every other week.
But you're not off the hook! Look out for blog updates and prompts on the instagram (I MADE AN INSTAGRAM) at @toyinsbiblestudy.
Unrelated but still related, here are some other book recs that I have on Revelation
Resisting Empire: the Book of Revelation by C.W. Daniel
Revelation for the Rest of Us by Scot McKnight
Revelation for Everyone by N.T. Wright
The Tears of Things by Richard Rohr
